"Sun's Cruise": il restauro - restoration
Missione: impossibile? - Mission: impossible?
Per cominciare, non c'è ombra di schemi elettrici per questa macchina. L'assenza degli schemi potrebbe significare che questi non venivano mai consegnati al proprietario della macchina. Infatti, i componenti più complessi e più facilmente soggetti a guasti (transistor pilota e moduli elettronici) erano progettati per essere sostituiti, non riparati dal noleggiatore. Forse alla B.E.M. pensavano che il noleggiatore non dovesse proprio toccare l'elettronica.
First of all, there's no trace of schematics for this machine. The absence of schematic diagrams could mean that they were never given to the owner of the machine. In fact, the more complex and more likely to break parts, (power transistors and electronic modules) where designed to be replaced, not fixed by the operator. Maybe at B.E.M. they thought that the operator didn't have to touch electronic parts.
Protezione da copia - copy protection
Peggio ancora, la B.E.M. rese difficile l'estrazione delle schede dai contenitori gialli. Le schede sono incollate al fondo delle scatole! In ogni modo, sarebbe possibile tagliare la plastica con un coltello affilato per accedere al circuito. Un paio di schede erano già state estratte (senza danno per i contenitori) e un'ispezione ravvicinata del lato delle saldature rivela che il lavoro di saldatura era stato effettuato a mano!
Even worse, B.E.M. made it difficuld to pull the circuit boards out of the yellow plastic contaiers. The boards are glued to the bottom of the box! Anyway, it would be possible to cut the plastic with a sharp knife to have access to the circuit. A couple of boards have already been pulled out (without damage for the boxes) and a closer examination of the solder side reveals that the solder work was done by hand!
Uno dei moduli è stato chiaramente aperto per effettuare una riparazione. È uno dei moduli di alimentazione, e ha un'aria piuttosto "cotta" che non è molto incoraggiante. E a cosa serviranno gli accoppiatori ottici?
One of the modules was clearly opened to fix a failure. It is a power supply module, and it looks pretty cooked. Not very encouraging. And what will be the use for the optical couplers?
Ma la sorpresa peggiore viene dal modulo "Score computer". È completamente riempito con una resina che rende il circuito totalmente inaccessibile! Si direbbe proprio una forma di protezione da copia; purtroppo ciò renderà impossibile qualsiasi riparazione se ce ne fosse la necessità.
But the worse surprise comes from the "Score computer" module. It is completely filled with a resin that makes the circuit totally unaccessible. This looks like a kind of protection from copy; too bad that it will make impossible a repair, should it be needed.
Che fare ora? - what to do now?
Per tutti questi motivi, questo restauro potrebbe rivelarsi molto difficoltoso se non impossibile. In ogni modo, dopo aver controllato l'alimentazione proverò ad accendere la macchina. Non dimenticatevi di controllare questa pagina se siete interessati agli sviluppi!
